Dominic Calder Death, Obituary – The communities of Saugus and Woburn, Massachusetts, are mourning the loss of Dominic J. Calder, a beloved husband, devoted father, respected mechanic, and cherished friend who passed away on Tuesday, June 9, at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was 53 years old.
Dominic’s passing leaves a profound void in the lives of his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. Remembered for his hardworking nature, generous spirit, and unwavering devotion to his loved ones, he leaves behind a legacy built on family, friendship, and service to others.
Born in Malden and raised in Woburn, Dominic was the son of Walter Calder of Billerica and the late Elizabeth (Benedetto) Calder. Throughout his life, he remained deeply connected to his roots and carried with him the values of loyalty, perseverance, and compassion that would come to define the man he became.
At the center of Dominic’s life was his beloved wife, Diane (Iacovone) Calder. Together, they shared 25 years of marriage filled with love, partnership, and countless treasured memories. Their relationship stood as a testament to commitment and devotion, providing a strong foundation for the family they built together.
Dominic was an exceptionally proud father to his three sons, Dominic J. Calder Jr., Joseph M. Calder, and Luke T. Calder. His children were the greatest source of joy in his life, and he dedicated himself wholeheartedly to supporting them in every stage of their lives. Whether cheering from the sidelines, coaching youth sports, or offering guidance and encouragement, Dominic was always present and involved. Those closest to him knew there was nothing he loved more than watching his sons grow, succeed, and pursue their passions.
In addition to his wife and children, Dominic is survived by his father, Walter Calder; his brothers, Michael Spinelli, Paul Scott, and Anthony Calder; and his sisters, Christine Napolitano, Tracy Allen Calder, and Malissa Morris. He also leaves behind many extended family members, lifelong friends, colleagues, and neighbors who will forever cherish his memory.
For more than three decades, Dominic built a respected career as a mechanic. He was known not only for his technical expertise but also for his remarkable ability to repair virtually anything placed before him. Friends and family often described him as a true “Jack-of-All-Trades,” someone who could solve problems others found impossible.
His mechanical skills were matched only by his willingness to help others. Whether a friend needed assistance with a vehicle, a neighbor faced a household repair, or a family member encountered a challenge, Dominic was often the first person people called. More importantly, he was always willing to lend his time, knowledge, and support without hesitation.
Outside of work, Dominic embraced life with enthusiasm. He loved spending time outdoors, whether fishing, enjoying nature, or participating in recreational activities. Football was another lifelong passion. As a talented athlete in his younger years, he played semi-professional football for the Seminoles, showcasing the competitive spirit and determination that would remain with him throughout his life.
His love for sports eventually extended into coaching, where he found tremendous fulfillment mentoring young athletes, including his own children. He understood that sports were about more than competition—they were opportunities to teach teamwork, discipline, character, and perseverance. The countless young athletes he coached benefited from his encouragement, leadership, and genuine investment in their success.
Throughout his battle with cancer, Dominic displayed extraordinary courage and resilience. He faced his illness with strength and determination while continuing to focus on the people he loved most. His perseverance inspired family members and friends who witnessed his unwavering spirit during difficult times.
As news of his passing spreads throughout Saugus, Woburn, and surrounding communities, tributes continue to pour in from those whose lives he touched. Many remember his infectious sense of humor, dependable nature, and willingness to help anyone in need. Others recall his dedication as a husband, father, coach, and friend. Together, these memories paint a portrait of a man whose impact reached far beyond his immediate family.
Though his passing brings immense sorrow, Dominic’s legacy lives on through the values he instilled in his children, the love he shared with his family, and the countless lives he influenced through his kindness and generosity.
Family and friends are invited to honor Dominic’s life during visiting hours at Bisbee-Porcella Funeral Home, 549 Lincoln Avenue, Saugus, on Monday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at Blessed Sacrament Church, 14 Summer Street, Saugus, at 10:30 a.m. Burial will take place afterward at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made in Dominic’s memory to the Colorectal Cancer Alliance, supporting efforts to raise awareness, fund research, and assist those affected by colorectal cancer.
As loved ones gather to celebrate his life, they will remember a man whose greatest accomplishments were not measured by career achievements or accolades, but by the love he gave, the lives he touched, and the family he cherished above all else.
